Awaiting to complete the takeover by Oracle, Sun Microsystems announced in a filing that it will be cutting approximately 10% of its workforce, or about 3000 employees. The cuts will likely be global, but locally Sun has a fairly big footprint in the South Bay and Peninsula markets.

After talks with IBM (IBM: 127.99 +0.04%) fell apart, Sun Microsystems (JAVA: 0.00 0.00%) has turned to Redwood Shores-based Oracle (ORCL: 25.165 +0.46%) to be its suitor. Interesting move to say the least, particularly since Oracle is expecting a 50% ROI within 2 years.

Word is a buyer has been picked by Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL). BEA paid about about $335 psf ($130M) in 2007 for the 388,000 square foot tower.
