Applied Materials May Cut Up To 15% of Workforce

Three analysts are expecting Applied Materials (AMAT: 12.23 -1.05%) to make further cuts to its headcount, cuts which could amount to 15% of the company’s 12,600 or so employees. The Santa Clara company manufactures equipment for the production of semiconductors, an industry that is suffering from sharp declines in CapEx spending.

National Semiconductor, Applied Materials Announce Layoffs

National Semiconductor (NSM: 14.44 +0.42%) and Applied Materials (AMAT: 12.23 -1.05%) both announced layoffs today. National is cutting about 5% of its workforce, or 330 employees. Applied Materials is cutting about 12%, or about 1,800 employees.
