Pontiac Silverdome Sells for a Whopping $583K
November 17, 2009
The Pontiac Silverdome has finally sold for a massive $583,000! The stadium cost some $55M to built 35 years ago. So much for residual value. According to Detroit News, a year ago, there was a deal on the table for more $20M.
The rumor is that a Canadian company purchased it with some sort of plans to bring a soccer team to town. Regardless, at $583K, I’m surprised nobody bought the building so they could just recycle the steel and other materials in the structure. Perhaps there were environmental issues, who knows?

i was pretty surprised by that valuation as well. 99% discount!!
Nope – no environmental issues. The stadium was built on virgin land out of a natural earthen bowl and there is no asbestos or other hazardous materials within the structure.
