Yahoo Layoffs Begin; Estimated 1500 To Lose Jobs This Round
December 10, 2008
Sunnyvale-based Yahoo (YHOO: 13.51 +1.05%) began its latest round of layoffs today. The estimate is that 1,500 employees will be laid off worldwide in this latest round. Both analysts covering Yahoo! as well as friends working for the company estimate that there are still several thousand more employees within the company whose jobs could be at jeopardy as the company seeks to narrow its focus and improve its market share.
Yahoo! has a large presence in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and San Francisco, and in the past has said that they will be consolidating operations so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see chunks of space come available for sublease at one or more of its Silicon Valley offices.
