Academia Expected to Partner with NASA For New Campus at Moffett Field
October 11, 2008
Back in 2000, an academic collaboration was formed with the intent of creating a large shared-use academic and R&D campus at the NASA Research Park at Moffett Field. Now eight years later, it seems the partnership is poised to reach its goal of building that campus and has proposed a plan encompassing affordable housing, offices, classrooms, r&d space, and labs. The development is expected to encompass several million square feet at a cost north of $1B.
The partnership, which contains De Anza-Foothill Colleges, UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, Carnegie-Mellon University, as well as some local high schools intends on emulating a growing trend where universities and industry partner.
The development is still a ways off as a ground lease still remains to be negotiated, but if it goes through, this will be the second major ground lease and development planned for NASA Research Park, with the first being the ground lease Google announced with NASA earlier this year.
