Noted San Francisco Law Firm Heller Ehrman to Dissolve; Vacate 300K SF Locally
September 29, 2008
Heller Ehrman, a 500-lawyer firm with 14 domestic and international offices has voted to dissolve. The firm was founded in 1890 in San Francisco, and occupies fourteen floors (about 200-250K SF) at 333 Bush Street and has about 100K square feet at 275 Middlefield Road in Menlo Park locally.
The firm was one of the most notable in Silicon Valley and San Francisco with a notable IP practice which it grew after acquiring Venture Law Group several years ago. The firm was named as one of the top firms in 2004.
This will likely not be the last firm to stumble as other industries are both directly and indirectly catching the contagion affecting the credit and financial world. Last month we wrote a note about a Bloomberg article outlining how much deal flow is down at some law firms. Between the slowdown resulting from the financial market, and the fact that tech companies are beginning to get hit, it is likely that tenants and landlords can expect a greater amount of Class A office space to hit the market.
