Real Estate Industry Jobs Report

The Mercury News reported today on the trouble some real estate industry professionals are having in finding work. As a result, many have changed careers. Some of the numbers reflecting the state of the market are below. Most of the impact of course is related to the housing sector, but the numbers are telling nonetheless.
- Santa Clara County Association of Realtors membership is down 17% from 2006. The number is 15% statewide.
- 1/3 of employees in mortgage-related positions lost their jobs between 2005 and now.
- In March of 2008, only 1,482 people to the state real estate salesperson licensing exam. In April 2005, nearly 20,000 people took the exam, a 90% drop.
